3rd CD Delegate Selection to Democratic National Convention

The selection of delegates from the 3rd Congressional District for the Democratic National Convention will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2013 at Mcguire’s Pub, 42 Main Street, Senoia, Ga. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Doors will close at noon sharp, although anyone in line at that time will be permitted to enter the voting location. Only those who have entered the building previously, or in line at 12 noon, will be able to enter after this time.

There is no provision for advance/early voting. Ballots will be handed out AFTER the candidate speeches are complete.

You will find a list of the district-level delegate candidates for this Saturday’s elections below. This list was submitted for review to the Obama campaign and there have been no objections to date. This list represents all qualified candidates within the 3rd Congressional District. No nominations may be taken from the floor, so these names (and only these names) will be on the ballot for the Third Congressional District election on Saturday. The 3rd CD is allowed 6 delegates – 3 women and 3 men.

Are You Registered To Vote?

Every vote counts. Make sure that you are eligible to vote in all upcoming 2012 elections. There is too much at stake for even one voter to be left out of the count.

Per the Election Division of the Office of the Secretary of State, if a person has not voted in any election through 3 general elections, then they are moved to the inactive voter registration roll. If you cannot remember the last time that you voted, please verify that you are still registered to vote. If you have been moved to inactive status, request to be returned to active status. You must be made active by July 2, 2012 to be able to participate in the state primary in July and by October 8, 2012 to vote in the Presidential Election in November. DON’T GIVE UP YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE.

If you have never registered to vote, there is no time like the present to do so! You must be 18 years of age on election day in order to vote, but you can register at 17 1/2 years of age.

To The Citizens of Lamar County:

It is generally understood that the law enforcement profession at times can be difficult and demanding, more than other occupations. The Sheriff is the highest ranking law enforcement official in the county, and as your Sheriff I know that I will do my best to make Lamar County a better place. This is our community and we as citizens must work together to improve our quality of life. The negative image of Lamar County elected officials portrayed in the local media in the past is unfortunate. As a fellow citizen I am committed to improving all relations with the citizens, the city officials, and the county officials.

As a parent of three children, I fully understand the proverb that it takes a village to raise a child. The concerns we have for our children’s safety are paramount. I do recognize the seriousness of these concerns and the important role the sheriff’s office plays in addressing them. Our community has to put our children first! There is no greater honor and duty, than to be entrusted with the safe guarding of our leaders of tomorrow.

We will begin turning this community around by attacking the criminal element with all available resources at our disposal. We will reestablish the community relationship, both public and private, that will be a significant part of restoring Lamar County Sheriff’s Office to its highest level of law enforcement competency. We cannot do this alone! My request to you is elect me, Frank Usher III as your new Sheriff. You, the citizens are our biggest concern and main focus. We will strive for excellence and meet our challenges with the highest possible standards of professional conduct.

Presidential Preference Primary Early Voting Begins 2/13/2012

Let’s show President Obama that he has our support here in Lamar County and in Georgia.Take the Democratic Ballot for the Presidential Preference Primary and vote!

Early voting for the March 6, 2012 Presidential Preference Primary Election will be held February 13 -March 2, 2012 at the Lamar County Board of Elections & Registration Office. Mandatory Saturday voting will be on February 25, 2012. Office hours for early voting will be 8:00am -12:30pm and 1:30pm-5:00pm. The voter registration deadline for the March 6, 2012 Presidential Preference Primary Election is February 6, 2012. Voters may view their sample ballot, print absentee ballot applications, and print voter registration applications by visiting the GA Secretary of State’s website.

SPECIAL CALLED MEETING: There will be a special called Lamar County Democratic Party meeting at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Pastime Grill, 208 Main Street, Barnesville.The room is reserved beginning at 6:00P.M. for dinner and fellowship. As we were unable to meet on our regularly scheduled day this month due to the New Year’s holiday, we are combining the January and February meetings. The February 6, 2012 meeting has been canceled so that members can attend the 3rd Congressional District meeting in Senoia on that date. Please mark your calendars.

The Georgia Deserves Better Rally

Our “Georgia Deserves Better” Rally will be held at the State Capitol on Saturday, January 28. We are expecting Democrats from all over the state to join this movement to show the clear differences between failed Republican policies and our positive Democratic ideas.

When: Saturday, January 28 from 12 noon – 2 pm.
