The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same
What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican party?
What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican party? I’ll tell you what they did. Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote. Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation. Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act. Liberals created Medicare. Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act. What did conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things every one. So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, ‘Liberal,’ as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won’t work, Senator. Because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor.”

Rural Democrats, we know you are out there. Sometimes it feels like we have all gone into hiding and need a secret handshake to identify each other so that we don’t get beat up by angry Tea Partiers, Constitution Party members and Republicans. But it is time to get out into the sunshine and stand up for our beliefs. We can start by reminding people of the following:
If you live in rural Georgia and use electricity, THANK A DEMOCRAT. The Rural Electrification Act of 1936 (FDR), provided federal loans for the installation of electricity in rural areas of the U.S.
If you or someone you know receives a Social Security check, THANK A DEMOCRAT. The Social Security Act, enacted for limited recipients in 1935 under FDR and expanded under Harry Truman and LBJ, helps ensure that people who are too old or infirm to work can still access basic necessities.
If you earn a fair wage, get paid overtime or have never been subjected to child labor, THANK A DEMOCRAT. Labor activists started calling for an 8-hour day in 1836. In 1938 Franklin Roosevelt and the Democratic Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act, which set the first national minimum wage, created requirements for overtime compensation and outlawed child labor.
If you have ever worked in a clean, safe workplace, THANK A DEMOCRAT.In 1970, the Democratic Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act, which created national standards for workplace cleanliness and safety.
If you feel secure putting that hard earned money in the bank, THANK A DEMOCRAT. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was created by the Glass-Steagall Act in 1933 under FDR. It provides deposit insurance, which guarantees the safety of deposits in member banks, currently up to $250,000 per depositer per bank.
If you have never been denied the right to vote, THANK A DEMOCRAT. Andrew Jackson got rid of laws that discriminated against working-class Americans that restricted voting to wealthy landholders. Woodrow Wilson supported the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. It was passed and ratified during his Presidency. Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic Congress passed the Voting Rights Act, which outlawed literacy tests as a requirement for voting, the 24th Amendment, which outlawed poll taxes and the 26th Amendment, which gave the right to vote to 18 year olds.
If you or anyone in your family has taken time off work due to a serious illness, accident, or birth of a child, THANK A DEMOCRAT. Chris Dodd championed the Family and Medical Leave Act, which allows employees who have worked for an employer for at least 1 year to take up to 12 weeks of leave for a family illness, birth or adoption within each 12 month period. Employers must apply accrued sick or vacation time to the worker’s family/medical leave and compensate workers for that time. The Democratic Congress passed FMLA, which was signed into law by Bill Clinton.
If you, your parents or your grandparents were helped by the G.I. Bill, THANK A DEMOCRAT. The G.I. Bill grants veterans loans to pursue higher education and purchase houses, as well as providing unemployment benefits. It was one of Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal initiatives, and it was passed by a Democratic Congress and enacted in 1944.
If you are a woman who is paid as much as your male coworkers, THANK A DEMOCRAT. Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic Congress passed the Equal Pay Act of 1963, guaranteeing equal pay for workers regardless of their gender.
If you have never been discriminated against due to your age or physical disability, THANK A DEMOCRAT.
If you enjoy clean air and clean water, THANK A DEMOCRAT. The Clean Air Act was passed by the Democratic Congress in 1963 and signed into law by Lyndon Johnson; the Clean Water Act was passed by the Democratic Congress in 1977 and signed into law by Jimmy Carter.

Fifteen Differences Between Republicans and Democrats
There are some fundamental differences in the way Republican and Democratic politicians think. Here are just 15 examples.
Republicans fear that the government has too much control over corporations. Democrats fear that corporations have too much control over our government.
Democrats believe it benefits all of us to help the weakest and the poorest among us. Republicans believe it benefits all of us to help the wealthiest and most powerful among us.
Republicans believe large corporations will always do what is best for the American people if the government stays out of the way. Democrats believe large corporations would disembowel you and sell your organs to the highest bidder if the government didn’t stop them.
Democrats believe everyone is entitled to health care regardless of their ability to pay. Republicans believe everyone is entitled to jack squat if they can’t pay for health care.
Democrats believe too much of our money goes to crooked corporate executives who take government subsidies and pay themselves $80 million salaries. Republicans believe too much of our money goes to teachers who make $30,000 a year.
Democrats believe anything that helps the American people during a recession or a time of crisis is the true essence of patriotism. Republicans believe anything that helps the American people during a recession or a time of crisis is the true essence of communism.
Democrats believe that we need to set high standards for clean air and drinking water. Republicans believe that standards for clean air and water are burdensome over-regulation.
Democrats believe the President and Congress need to work together to create jobs during a weak economy. Republicans believe that Congress should do nothing to create jobs and then blame the President.
Democrats believe that corporate polluters should be made to pay for the cleanup of their pollution.Republicans believe that making corporations clean up their pollution is burdensome over-regulation.
Democrats believe our health care system exists solely for the purpose of making people healthy. Republicans believe our health care system exists solely for the purpose of making a healthy profit.
Democrats believe Congress should be of the people, by the people and for the people. Republicans believe corporations are the people.
Democrats believe that corporations have too much influence over Congress due to their lobbyists and huge campaign contributions. Republicans believe the middle class has too much influence over Congress due to their voting and paying taxes.
Democrats believe we need to protect victims of corporate negligence by allowing Americans to filelawsuits against corporations. Republicans believe we need to protect large corporations from lawsuits by Americans who’ve been victimized by them.
Democrats believe that the rich should be taxed more than the poor and middle class. Republicans believe that the rich should be allowed to keep all their wealth, except for the millions in campaign contributions they give to politicians.
Democrats believe that too much money in politics produces corruption and destroys the American way of life. Republicans believe that money and corruption in politics are the American way of life.
These are just my observations from a lifetime of watching Democratic and Republican politicians. I’m sure some Republican will come up with their own clever list.

The typical conservative is one who opposes all progress. They are paranoid, enjoy using fear to control others, and in most cases have no clue what they are talking about. They hate facts, hate government, and do not believe in contributing to society. Conservatives cling to the failed policies and traditions of the past and are willing to use the threat of violence at times to return to them. Many of these quotes were meant to be funny, but it turns out the humorous quotes were quite accurate. The rest of the quotes were just bluntly truthful. In the spirit of this list, however, I’d like to add a quote of my own that describes today’s conservatives to a tee.
Conservatives remind me of Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote, and Elmer Fudd. They bring the guns, the stupidity, and of course, the failure.
Sorry conservatives, it had to be said.
